Digital Assets
A digital asset, commonly referred to as a cryptocurrency, is an asset that denotes a currency unit used to buy, transfer, sell, or hold as a store of value within a digital ecosystem. These particular assets are secured, monitored, and organized by a peer-to-peer network, called a blockchain. Blockchain technology (and the advancements from blockchain, such as hypergraphs) use numerous cryptographic features that drastically reduce a digital asset’s likelihood of being counterfeited or double-spent.
Most digital assets operate on decentralized networks, which allow a network to run without an intermediary, such as a bank or government. Even though these digital assets show extreme volatility, many experts believe that blockchain technology, along with selected digital assets, will disrupt numerous industries on a global scale.
